A Daughter’s Light
A Daughter’s Light
Oil on Canvas
*Frame Included on Original Oil Painting
*Poster and signed Canvas prints available
This is a painting of my daughter. She is not biologically mine, but I’ve raised her since she was 2 years old when I married her mom. I had never been a father before and didn’t know much about raising kids, but one thing I did know is that I loved her and wanted to protect her at all costs. I wanted to shield her from the darkness that I’ve seen in the world.
Originally, I wanted to depict her in my jacket with the hood on her head, covering her from head to toe, barely showing her face, but she told me, “Daddy, I can’t really see. I want people to see me”. Which changed the meaning behind the painting and taught me a lesson. She didn’t want to hide; she was aware of her light and wanted people to see it.
As parents, our constant love and support have grown this uncontrollable light, that we don’t want the world to dim. Not knowing that the same light can brighten the world and everything around it if it’s nurtured.
I knew I couldn’t hide her away, but I can help brighten her light by nurturing it, so that everything that she comes into contact with will brighten and grow along with her.
