“Amani”
This painting was named Amani, which means Peace in Swahili. It was inspired by a night at the field in our neighborhood when we took the kids to see the fireworks. After a long month of financial struggles, we knew this would be a chance for our family to just have fun and breathe.
The glow from the fireworks lit up our kids’ faces both in a literal and figurative way. In that moment, we saw peace. Not in the absence of struggle, but in the joy of being together, right where we were.
Sometimes we all need those small moments to ground us in the present and remind us to appreciate what we have.
